Stuck with the kids on a rainy day?
Alright, it’s a wonderful Saturday and your kids are ready to spend the day catching some fun outdoors.
And just as everyone was ready to step outside, nature disrupts all your plans with … rain.
Then you thank your stars for the kids rain boots, kids raincoats and kids rain jackets you bought at the mall the other day. They surely will come in handy, you thought.
For you, you wouldn’t mind if it rained the whole day since you will probably get some deserved rest from the hectic week.
But then, the kids are not on the same page with you.
They certainly don’t want to be cooped up inside nor get into rain gear to play outside.
You are left with no option than to come up with something to keep them entertained if you are to keep your sanity.
Desperate for ideas? Not to worry, we have come up with 6 fun rainy day activities that you can get them involved in while the rain takes its toll outside:
Play board games
Board games are one of the easiest ways to have fun with the kids without breaking the bank. It is also so simple to set up, and in a matter of seconds, you would have pleasantly succeeded in distracting the kids from the thoughts of going outside. Some fun-filled board games you can try out with them are Monopoly, Ludo, Scrabble, and many more. While at it, grab some snacks to make it even more enjoyable.
Play dress up
Most kids naturally want to grow up quick so that they can become adults like daddy and mummy. A rainy day is the perfect time to let them feel like that even if it’s just for once. Start by reaching to that inner part of your wardrobe where you have old clothes you no longer wear. Then give it to the girls and ask them to put on mummy’s clothes. You can do the same for the boys with daddy’s old clothes. You will be amazed at how much fun they will find it.
Turn your home into a mini cinema
Kids love going to the cinemas, but since the rain has forced them to stay indoors, it’s time to make it worthwhile for them. Turning your home into a cinema is not that complicated. All you need is a good family movie, a good sound system, and some popcorn! You can also draw the blinds to give the room a dark cinema appearance. Believe me, they will love it!
Bake some cookies
Since they are going to be indoors, it won’t hurt to get them involved in preparing one of their favorites – cookies. Baking is one great idea when thinking of fun activities for children. It must not be cookies alone. Bake whatever comes to your mind but make sure it is one of the kids’ favourites. You can make it all fun by engaging them in the preparation. Just show them how it’s done, step aside and allow them show off their culinary skills. The looks on their faces will be worthwhile, I bet you!
Make a cardboard crown
The thought of playing out a movie role as a prince or princess is such that will appeal to your kids on a rainy day. Just think of some of their favourite characters with heroic personalities and get them involved in playing the roles. Since they need to look the part, it calls for some creativity. And before you get all worked up about it, do note that all you require is a cereal box or a cardboard paper, a pair of scissors, and some glue.
Show them how to draw crown shapes and cut it out for them. Then have them paint it into whatever they like even if it is kids rainbow. After that, show them how to glue the edges together. And voilà! You just got them to create crowns out of recycled materials.
Make some music with household objects
Ever tried making music with home equipment like kitchen utensils – pots, spatula, tins, and wooden spoons? If you haven’t experienced such, then make sure you join the kids in this fun activity. It’s noisy, but in a pleasant way because you guys are not looking to please anyone. Just make it fun by coming up with their favourite rhyme and singing along.
And there you have it! No need to grab the kids’ rain poncho when it starts raining.
Use these 6 indoor rainy day activities to create fun not just for the kids but also fun activities for teens. The activities are suitable for children and teens of all ages. These activities will create a closer bond between you and kids while giving them a memory to hold on to for many years to come.
