Sit…
Breathe…
Think…
Are you happy?
Could you be a happier mom?
Trust me, motherhood can be a mess as much as it is a joy.
It’s not that motherhood makes us unhappy but it certainly comes with a long list of challenges that can make us feel like we could do much better. The feeling of everything slipping through your fingers is not too unusual. What is unusual, to me at least, is the fact that we keep on forgetting how simple things matter.
It is the simple things that help us have day-to-day happiness and provide ourselves some self-care despite being on our busy mama schedules.
Here are some simple ideas to motivate you to be happier mom.
Breathe deeply and count to ten.
Whenever you feel like you are going towards the edge, do this good old trick to avoid yelling or getting annoyed.
It will slow down your heartbeats and get you back to your natural state of calmness.
Go through photos of your child.
Open that old folder of your child doing silly things. Those memories will bring a smile to your face and fix your day in no time.
If you have some funny family videos, even better!
Have a family diary.
Making memories is the essence of family life. In addition to family photos and videos, one thing that will make you happier is a family diary.
It will make you happy both today as you make it and in the future as you revisit those good old days!
Love and be loved.
Don’t hesitate to share your love with those you love. Saying those words out of the blue will make both you and someone else happy.
Let your family know how full of love you are and you are not shy to admit it.
Seize the weather.
If it’s perfectly sunny, take your child for a walk. It’s windy, it’s time for flying a kite. It is snowy, it’s time to make a snowman.
If it’s rainy, it is the right time for fun indoor activities such as reading or doing arts and crafts. It is important not to allow the weather to impact your mood badly!
You can always find something nice to do regardless of weather conditions!
Be honest about your needs.
If you are too tired, it is okay to admit it and ask a family member to take care of the kids while you get some sleep.
Whatever your needs are, make sure to communicate them clearly. Perhaps it’s much easier to meet your needs than you thought and all you need is to say them out loud.
Have your own corner.
Find a spot in your home that will be free of any noise, toys, mess and other people.
You can use it for reading, meditation, listening to your favorite tracks or doing just anything that makes you feel relaxed.
Ask others not to bother you when you are there. I know I know, it s easier to say than do when you get your toddler knocking at the door of your bathroom and so on.
But be strong and make them understand that when you’ll feel better, you’ll be more relaxed and have some real quality time with them.
Don’t forget about bubble baths.
If you can steal an hour from a day, for instance, when the kids are asleep, you can use it to surprise your senses with some amazing aromas. Nourishing your body will refresh you and give you more enthusiasm for the rest of your day and chores.
Sing.
Whether you are talented or not, you can equally enjoy the therapeutic potentials of music.
Play your favorite tunes as you are arranging toys with your kids or as you are cleaning your bathroom. It will make any chore more bearable.
Eat chocolate.
Scientists say that chocolate enhances the production of happiness hormones, and who are we to oppose science!
Make sure to have dark chocolate with a higher percentage of cocoa which is healthier and brings more happiness.
Have a light workout.
You can always steal 10-20 minutes for some lighter physical activities. You can do it while your kids are watching cartoons, for instance.
Exercising boosts our health and longevity, and also increases the production of our happiness hormones.
Let things go.
When there are things that are bothering you, be it something related to your family or not, if you see that you cannot do anything about it – just let it go.
The world won’t end and you will be happier for not wasting your energy on irrelevant stuff.
What are your favorite rules of happiness? I’m always trying to expand my list and I will be happy to read your thoughts in the comments!
We hope that this post made you to be happier mom and that we helped you find your inner happiness.
Every mom deserves to be a happy mom and even happier mom.
