Happy Dinosaur Birthday to my son!
I’m all excited because my boy is about to turn 5 and wants me to throw him a dinosaur birthday party. As a doting mum, I have been actively looking for ways to make the day a memorable one for my son without losing myself in it entirely.
Are you like me looking to throw a birthday party for your kid? Looking for ideas to make it all fun without spending money hiring it out to party organizers?
You have come to the right place at the right time. I have scoured the internet looking for dinosaur birthday party setup ideas. You will be happy with what I found since I have done all the work for you.
You can print out this page and get to work setting up your child’s party with ease.
Here we go!
1. Free printable dinosaurs masks
Nothing gets your child and his guests ready for the party like dinosaur masks to start the day. These lovely masks are free for you to download all thanks to Itsy Bitsy Fun.
You can print it out with these lovely colors or you can print plain ones and have the kids color it as part of the fun for the day. And then you can create a small opening by the side and attach rubber bands so that it can be worn across the face. I can bet you one thing though; there will be a lot of ‘Raawrs’ to go around.
2. Dino chair tails
We sure can borrow a leaf from this creative idea from Catch My Party with these incredible dino tails. The tails are perfect for setting up a dinosaur themed party. If you have green plastic chairs to match it, then that would be awesome. Otherwise, any color of the plastic will still go.
Did I tell you that these tails can also be worn around the waists as well? It makes the whole party even more fun for the kids.
3. Dino balloons

Instead of buying expensive dinosaur balloons that may even be hard to find, why not do one yourself? All you need to do is draw and carve out dinosaur-shaped legs, hands, tails and heads from a carton paper that will be gummed to the blown balloon. You can see the image above and see how Teacher By Trade, Mother by Nature put hers up. Interesting, right?
4. Dino cookies and bread
What would a dinosaur party be without something for the kids to eat? Think of these dinosaur cookies and dinosaur breads as part of the fun. See the way the cookies were colorfully decorated with 3 dinosaur dots to make it look real. The breads can be transformed with colorful icing too. You can always make yours different with a little twist here and there.
5. Dinosaur hunt
A dinosaur birthday party won’t be complete without digging in the sand to find the dinosaurs. So, get some sand and some dino toys. Have your toy gardening tools handy so the kids can have some fun hunting for the dinosaurs.
6. Dinosaur egg ice smash
Want something that the kids can be glued to for an hour? Think of these dino egg ices. Getting those tiny dinosaurs out of the ice will be worth it when they eventually make it through. Not only is it fun to make but easy too. All you need are balloons, small dinosaurs, and water. Add the small toy dinosaurs into the balloons and fill each with water. Tie the mouth of the balloon and freeze overnight. When it’s time to play the game, get the balloons out and cut out the balloons and you will be left with icy dinosaur eggs.
To make excavating the dinosaurs from the ice easy for the kids, you can use the tools you already have at home like dish scrubber, turkey baster, and handy man tools or any other safe tools you can lay your hands on. You can also give them gloves to protect their hands from freezing over. Another easy way to get the dinosaurs out would be a steady pouring of water or smashing of the eggs on the floor. Whichever way, your child and his birthday guests will love it.
7. Dino watermelon
What a brilliant idea. All thanks to Place of My Taste for this dino-looking watermelon. All you need is expert hands at cutting out the water melon like a dinosaur head. Cut out the insides and dice it in eatable sizes. The toothpicks which serve as the dinosaur teeth are also great for picking the water melons out. We just love the creativity displayed here.
8. Corn nacho chips as dino-toe nails
Doesn’t it make sense that these chips can serve as dino-toe nails while serving as a tasty snack for the kids? And the snack can be gotten from the stores and are quite inexpensive. Just get a toy dinosaur or its print out, add it to the middle of the snack and make it all fun.
9. Pretzels sticks as dino bones
This one doesn’t get any easier. Just get a printout that reads “Dino Bones” and stick to the jar of pretzel sticks and you are good to go.
10. Dino-labeled drink
It’s not going to be food all day. There will be something to drink for the kids when they get thirsty. Whether it is juice-filled cans or water bottles, you can print out dinosaur printouts with your child’s name and paste on the bottles.
11. Dino-birthday cake
The party surely won’t be complete without a dinosaur birthday cake to go with it. If you are not good with carving out cakes to form a dinosaur shape, you can always make a regular cake, cover it with fondant and place toy dinosaurs on top of it.
12. Take home bags
There has got to be a take home bag for the guests. You can easily get these bags in stores at very affordable rates. You can customize them with your baby’s name with a “thank you for coming” note attached to it. Or you can have each of the guest’s name printed and pasted on each bags. You can fill the bag with any inexpensive fun items like fake money, toy dinosaurs and books. They usually don’t cost more than a dollar per book.
These 12 great dinosaur ideas will have you throwing your kid a fun birthday party. I’m off to organise mine for my soon-to-be 5 year old son.
Let me know how yours turns out in the comment section.
